Methacton schools to operate virtually Monday under flexible instructional day

Citing forecasted winter weather and out of an abundance of caution, Methacton School District announced that Monday will be a Flexible Instruction Day for all schools.

All district offices will operate virtually.

A Flexible Instruction Day is used when circumstances prevent in-person instruction. Students will receive asynchronous instruction through Google Classroom. The day will function in place of a regular in-person school day, and students are expected to complete and submit assignments during normal school hours.

Assignments will be posted in Google Classroom at the start of each school’s instructional day:

  • Methacton High School: 7:30 a.m.
  • Arcola Intermediate School and Skyview Upper Elementary: 8:15 a.m.
  • Elementary schools: 9:05 a.m.

Students are expected to complete and submit all assigned work that day. Attendance will be based on assignment completion, according to the district website. Those experiencing accessibility issues must contact their teacher; students will not be penalized if work is submitted within three days of returning to school due to access problems.

Teachers will hold 30 minutes of virtual office hours in both the morning and afternoon and will be available via Zoom or Google Meet to answer questions, according to the district website.

Staff are required to post lessons in Google Classroom by the start of the student day, hold office hours, respond to emails, provide required IEP and 504 supports and submit attendance based on work submissions, the district said. When possible, students are encouraged to take home school-issued devices, and hard copies of assignments may be provided in advance of anticipated inclement weather.

All evening events, activities and Community Education Program classes will be canceled if schools are closed during regular daytime hours.

Families and staff will be notified of schedule changes through Methacton.org, social media, phone calls and email via the district’s SchoolMessenger system. Notifications are sent to the primary contact information listed in PowerSchool.

Families who do not receive notifications or need to update contact information are advised to contact their building secretary.
