According to owner Harshil Patel, the break-in occurred at 4:55 a.m. and captured one suspect on camera
Collegeville Pharmacy at 305 2nd Ave. in the borough was burglarized early Wednesday morning, with a substantial quantity of prescription drugs reported stolen and damages estimated at just under $100,000.
According to owner Harshil Patel, the break-in occurred at 4:55 a.m. Surveillance footage captured a single suspect breaking through the front glass door using what appeared to be a hammer or similar tool. The individual parked a vehicle directly in front of the store before gaining entry.
Among the stolen items were large quantities of controlled substances, including oxycodone, hydrocodone, amphetamines, and promethazine with codeine, Patel said. The suspect also took medications requiring refrigeration, primarily GLP-1 agonists often used for weight loss treatment, he said.
Patel estimated the financial loss to be between $70,000 and $90,000, although a full inventory is still underway. No other property was reported stolen, and there were no injuries related to the incident.
“There is no indication that any patient information was compromised,” Patel said, adding that the burglary appeared to target pharmaceuticals specifically.
As of early Thursday morning, no arrests have been made. Detectives with the Collegeville Borough Police Department were contacted for comment but had not responded by 1 a.m.
The burglary highlights ongoing concerns about thefts targeting pharmacies for high-demand medications, many of which carry a high risk for abuse or resale on the black market.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact the Collegeville Borough Police at 610-489-9332.
Wednesday's burglary is the second burglary of a pharmacy in the Perk Valley area within two months: Skippack Pharmacy was burglarized in March.
Two suspects have been arrested and charged in that burglary by Pennsylvania State Police: Fernando Azcona, 29, of South Brunswick, NJ, who has a preliminary hearing on May 21 and remains incarcerated in Montgomery County jail on $99,000 cash bail, and Benjamin G. Nadler, 21, of Princeton, NJ, who is free on 10% of $25,000 cash bail and will be arraigned next month in Common Pleas Court on burglary and other offenses.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
