Chelsea Burke has wrapped up a milestone year, graduating from Alvernia University with a Bachelor of Social Work and completing a nine-month internship with the Lower Providence Township Police Department.
Her journey, marked by hands-on learning and compassionate community service, is just beginning as she prepares to enter Widener University's accelerated Master of Social Work program.
Burke served as the Social Services Liaison Intern, working under the mentorship of Social Services Liaison Nikki Urbanski, MS, as well as Cpl. Robert Heim and Sgt. Mark Stead. During her time with the department, Burke embraced the opportunity to support community members facing a range of challenges, including mental health issues, substance use, food insecurity, and housing instability.
The Social Services Liaison role, part of the department’s Community Policing Division, is designed to bridge the gap between law enforcement and local support systems. Working alongside officers, the SSL helps identify residents in need and connects them with appropriate services—from mental health care and trauma support to resources for seniors and those experiencing homelessness.
As Burke continues her education at Widener, the department celebrated her achievements and the meaningful impact she made during her internship on its Facebook page
