State senator, auditor general welcomed by district dignitaries
Senator Tracy Pennycuick (R-24) and Pennsylvania Auditor General Timothy DeFoor visited North Penn High School on Wednesday, April 30 to meet with school district leaders and speak directly with students about the importance of financial literacy.
They were welcomed by Dr. Todd Bauer, Superintendent of the North Penn School District; Dr. D’Ana Waters, Assistant Superintendent; Dr. Pete Nicholson, Administrator for Secondary Education and Renovation; and Kyle Hassler, Principal of North Penn High School.
As part of the visit, students from the school’s personal finance classes participated in an open dialogue with Pennycuick and DeFoor.
The discussion focused on the significance of building strong financial habits from an early age and how personal finance education can have a lasting impact throughout life.
Pennycuick emphasized the importance of equipping students with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed financial decisions. “Empowering students with financial literacy is one of the most impactful ways we can prepare them for success after graduation,” said Pennycuick. “I’m grateful to North Penn High School for prioritizing this critical learning and providing opportunities for students to engage with state leaders.”
DeFoor shared insights from his background in investigative finance and described his responsibilities as the commonwealth’s independently elected fiscal watchdog, a role he has held since 2020. He also highlighted his ongoing commitment to promoting financial literacy throughout Pennsylvania.
“This month I had the privilege of visiting classrooms across the state to see firsthand how financial literacy is being taught at all grade levels,” said DeFoor. “North Penn High School stands out as a model because its educators are clearly committed to preparing students for a brighter, more financially secure future. Financial literacy needs to be part of every grade level, and teachers here are showing us how it can be done.”
Bauer expressed his appreciation for the visit, stating, “It was wonderful to have Senator Pennycuick and Auditor General DeFoor visit North Penn High School and speak to our students about financial literacy. We recognize the importance of preparing students for the real world and offer several courses in business and finance, including personal finance.”
The visit is part of a broader initiative to promote personal finance education and emphasize its vital role in building strong, self-reliant communities across the Commonwealth.
