Steven Evan Nardone, of the 100 block of Bethlehem Pike, Colmar, was charged by Montgomery County detectives last month
A Hatfield Township man has been accused of assaulting a corrections officer while incarcerated at Montgomery County jail and faces a preliminary hearing later this month.
Steven Evan Nardone, 41, of the 100 block of Bethlehem Pike, Colmar, was charged by Montgomery County detectives last month with aggravated assault with bodily injury and recklessly endangering another person for a March 21 incident at the Lower Providence Township jail, according to charging documents.
On March 21, at 1:48 p.m., a corrections officer was inside the jail on security detail. While conducting a routine tour of a jail pod, he was in the vicinity of the cell holding Nardone, police said.
Nardone allegedly, unprovoked, threw an unknown substance from his cell, which hit the officer in the face and uniform. The victim was immediately relieved of his duties and was evaluated by nurses at the jail, police said.
Due to the unknown substance coming into contact with the officer’s eyes, he was taken to Concerta Occupational Health for further evaluation, police said.
On April 15, detectives reached out to the victim for a status of his injuries, to which he said his eyes were stinging and irritated from whatever liquid came into contact with him, police said.
Nardone remains incarcerated on $5,077 cash bail, which includes a parole/probation detainer. A preliminary hearing is set for May 27 at 11:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Cathleen Kelly Rebar.
Nardone pleaded guilty in September 2024 to drug possession and received one year probation, per court records.
He currently has an open case in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court stemming from a September 2024 arrest in Lansdale Borough on charges of felony criminal trespassing-breaking into a structure and felony criminal trespassing-entering a structure, according to court records.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
