Investigators say xylazine and synthetic cannabinoids were found hidden in a calculator during a July 2024 prison cell search of Kyle Williams, of the 1100 block of Pike Street, Huntingdon, PA
Nine months later, agents from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections have charged a Huntingdon, Pa. man with felony drug possession charges for allegedly smuggling animal tranquilizers and synthetic cannabis into SCI Phoenix state prison.
Kyle Williams, 37, of the 1100 block of Pike Street, was charged last month with felony possession of contraband, felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, and two misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance, according to court documents.
Williams is accused of bringing xylazine, a known veterinary sedative, and the cannabinoid “designer drugs” MDMB-4en-PINACA and ADB-4en-PINACA into the state prison on Mokychic Drive in Skippack Township. The two synthetic cannabinoids are commonly mixed with fentanyl.
On July 16, at 7:47 a.m., two corrections officers conducted a search of Williams’ cell, which he shared with another inmate, Nafis Allen, according to investigators. During the search, one officer allegedly found a makeshift tool inside of a sewing kit and a calculator that appeared to have been tampered with, as it was missing screws.
The officer used the tool to open the calculator, and found eight-and-a-half various-sized pieces of stained white paper with blue markings on the edges, wrapped in cellophane, police said. A clear bottle marked “AMB” was found, which contained a translucent liquid, police said.
On July 24, 2024, the suspected contraband was sent to the Cumberland Office of the District Attorney Forensic Laboratory for analysis, police said. On Sept. 19, 2024, the results were returned, which revealed the stained paper contained the three drugs, according to the complaint. A second test was done on the suspected drugs, and the results of the report were received on Jan. 17, 2025, indicating the presence of all three drugs on the pieces of stained paper, investigators said.
Court records were not updated with a preliminary hearing date as of Monday.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
