A Lower Providence Township man is facing charges of aggravated assault on an officer for allegedly assaulting a Montgomery County deputy sheriff who was attempting to take the defendant into custody on an arrest warrant.
Michael Paul Langheim, 22, of the 1200 block of Pawlings Road, was charged March 13 with two counts of aggravated assault, two misdemeanor counts of attempted simple assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest, according to charging documents from Lower Providence Township Police.
At 7:27 a.m. March 13, an officer called in for immediate need of assistance at Langheim’s Pawlings Road home. Officers responding were advised that a deputy sheriff had been assaulted, police allege.
Upon arrival, police were met by a county deputy sheriff, who told them about the warrant service and how he was assaulted by Langheim and that the defendant attempted to assault a second deputy sheriff, police said.
The victim told authorities he was kicked in the arm by Langheim, police allege. Langheim then allegedly tried to strike a female deputy sheriff with a headbutt.
Langheim remains jailed on $75,077 cash bail, which includes a probation/parole detainer. A preliminary hearing is set for March 25 at 10:15 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Cathleen Kelly Rebar.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
