Police suspect thieves used a device to intercept the key fob signal for keyless entry
Upper Providence Police are investigating the theft of three locked Hondas from the Royersford area of the township in the overnight hours Wednesday into Thursday.
Police said the cars were stolen from the area of Roboda Boulevard and Vaughn Road. All owners still have key fobs in their possession, police said.
Honda vehicles, like many modern keyless entry cars, are vulnerable to theft via a key fob signal interception, police said.
Thieves are using devices to capture and relay the signal to unlock and start the car, authorities allege.
Police recommended Honda owners consider using a Faraday cage bag or pouch to block the transmission of electromagnetic signals from the key fob.
Residents in the area are asked to review home surveillance footage to identify any suspicious activity.
