The Irish Heritage Theatre is Philadelphia’s only theatre company dedicated to producing Irish and Irish American classics. Currently the theater company is showing The Beauty Queen of Leenane at Plays & Players Theatre.

The Beauty Queen of Leenane, written by Martin McDonagh and directed by Peggy Mecham, tells the story of a middle-aged woman living in Connemara, County Galway who finally has her chance at happiness when a handsome man shows her interest. Unfortunately, her demanding mother is determined to squash her dreams.

The show is running until Sunday, Mar. 23. General admission tickets are $25.

Plays & Players Theatre is located at 1714 Delancey Place. For tickets and more information, visit irishheritagetheatre.org.

Philadelphia Orchestra’s ‘Carnival of Animals’

On Saturday, Mar. 15, 11:30 a.m., The Philadelphia Orchestra is bringing to life the sounds of the zoo in Carnival of Animals at the Kimmel Center for Performing Arts.

Under mastership of conductor Naomi Woo, The Philadelphia Orchestra will use its instruments to create a full-sensory experience of a trip to the zoo, including the roars of the big cats and the quiet bleating of the barnyard animals.

Composed by Charles-Camille-Saint-Saëns, Carnival of the Animals is a part of Ensemble Arts Philly’s buy-two-or-more Family Discovery Series saving package.

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts is located at 300 S. Broad Street. For tickets and more information, visit ensembleartsphilly.org or call (215) 893-1999.
