Anthony White was caught trying to swallow drugs during intake
An inmate at Montgomery County Correctional Facility pleaded guilty last week to a felony count of possession of a controlled substance/contraband by an inmate for smuggling cocaine and meth in his braided hair into the Lower Providence jail and was sentenced to 11½ to 23 months in jail, with credit for 146 days served.
All other charges were dismissed against Anthony White, 31, at the March 6 pre-trial hearing, including another possession of a controlled substance by an inmate charge, two felony counts each of bringing a controlled substance to jail and possession with intent to distribute, and two misdemeanor counts each of intentional possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
White will also be on two years of probation and must comply with drug and alcohol treatment, per court records.
On Oct. 12, at 10:06 p.m., corrections supervisors and medical assistants were conducting a medical intake screening on White, when an officer saw a black and circular object in the braid of White’s hair, per the affidavit.
When questioned about it and when authorities went to take control of the item, White grabbed it, put it in his mouth, started chewing it and attempted to swallow the item.
After White did not comply in spitting out the item, officers were able to remove the object from White’s mouth, police said.
All in all, the object was found to be eight small baggies of cocaine, and four blue vials of meth, all which was identified via lab testing, police said.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
