The burglary occurred shortly after 2 a.m. at the Skippack Pike pharmacy
Pennsylvania State Police at Skippack nabbed two suspects who burgled Skippack Pharmacy and attempted to take controlled substances early Tuesday morning, the pharmacy owner confimed with Perk Valley Now Tuesday afternoon.
Pharmacy owner Dr. Mayank "Dr. Mak" Amin said the suspects broke in via the front glass door. Alarms and cameras triggered a police response, whose headquarters is literally around the corner from the pharmacy.
Troopers arrived within a minute and waited for the suspects to come out from the building.
Amin said troopers also tracked down and arrested the suspects in a robbery of the pharmacy six months ago.
"Too often we hear about the negative things that happen with the police, but this is just one of those things where I have to give them hats off for how they responded so quickly and took care of this," Amin said.
Amin said no one was injured. The alleged thieves attempted to steal some drugs, but got caught in the process.
"What's happening with a lot of pharmacy burglaries nowadays is that they are coming to get controlled medications overnight," he said.
Amin said Skippack Pharmacy mainly deals with vaccines and weight loss injections. Less than 0.5% of its volume is controlled substances, he said.
"It's come full circle," Amin said. "During the pandemic, we helped vaccinate Pennsylvania State troopers and their families and donating essential supplies to support them. Ever since, they've had our back even more and are constantly monitoring the area."
Amin said the pharmacy has received a replacement door and reopened by 3 p.m.
Pennsylvania State Police Troop K Public Information Officer Trooper Paul Holderfer said a release on the incident will be sent to media Wednesday morning.
