While spring hasn’t quite sprung just yet, we are certainly getting closer with the Philadelphia Flower Show and early St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. There is a little something for everyone this week in the Philadelphia region.
In the city, the popular Philadelphia Flower Show is returning to bring some much-needed color to our winter landscape. Green will be the theme at JD McGillicuddy’s in Havertown when they host a Shamrock Singles Night.
If you love to learn and be hands-own, there will also be a sourdough bread making class and a class on building a rain barrel.
For the younger set, Unami Middle School in Chalfont is performing Something Rotten, Jr., and the Cheltenham Center for the Arts is holding a special Family Fun Day with plenty of creative projects for the family to work on together.
Enjoy a special double feature using 35mm at the Mahoning Drive-in Roadshow at the Ambler Theater and enjoy some live music at Harrigan’s Pub.
The Philadelphia Flower Show
From now until Sunday, Mar. 9, the annual Pennsylvania Horticultural Society Philadelphia Flower Show will be at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The oldest and largest indoor horticultural event in the world, it brings together florists, landscapers and designers from around the world. This year’s theme is Gardens of Tomorrow.
Besides the juried competition in horticulture and floral arranging, there will also be gardening talks, demonstrations, shopping and live performances.

Sourdough Bread Making Master Class
On Thursday, Mar. 6, at 10:00 a.m., Lansdale’s Vituperio Bakery & Studio will be offering a Sourdough Bread Making Master Class.
During the class, which is 5 to 6 hours long, attendees will learn how to use a sourdough starter, what ingredients and tools are needed to make sourdough bread at home as well as the benefits of this healthy bread and the chemistry behind it.

Rain Barrell Building and Painting Workshop
On Thursday, Mar. 6, at 6:30 p.m., the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy is hosting a Rain Barrel Building & Painting Workshop. This is a two-day workshop. The second day will be March 11.
During the workshop, attendees will construct and paint a rain barrel for your property and learn how to properly maintain it. The Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy will also share the benefits and uses of rain barrels.

Something Rotten Jr. at Unami Middle School
On Friday, Mar. 7, at 7 p.m., come out for some fun family theater with Unami Middle School’s presentation of “Something Rotten Jr.
The musical comedy adapted from Broadway centers on two brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom as they try to write the world’s first musical in the 1590s. The show features large song and dance numbers and a cast of wacky characters.

Mahoning Drive-in Roadshow
On Wednesday, Mar. 5, at 7 p.m., The Mahoning Drive-in Theater is coming to the Ambler Theater with a special creature feature of GRIZZLY (1976) and SQUIRM (1976) on 35 mm.
The Mahoning Drive-in crew will recreate the vibe of summer nights at the drive-in with live introductions, Q&A’s and other fun activities.

Family Fun Day at Cheltenham Center for the Arts
On Saturday, Mar. 9, at 12 p.m., the Cheltenham Center for the Arts is hosting a Family Fun Day to say thank you to the community for its continued support.
General admission is free and families can enjoy lots of hands-on activities and contribute to a special community art project. On display will also be the Center’s Annual Regional Children’s Art Show with works from local and regional elementary and middle school students.

Shamrock Singles Night at JD McGillicuddy’s
On Friday, Mar. 7, at 8 p.m., JD McGillicuddy’s hosting a special Shamrock Singles Night to celebrate the Saint Patrick’s Day holiday and to help you find your lucky charm.
The singles night is for people ages 35 to 50 and will include drink specials, a DJ and a complimentary matchmaking membership.
