The NFL Network's Ian Rapoport was among the first to report Saturday evening that the 49ers are trading WR Deebo Samuel to the Commanders in exchange for a fifth-round pick in this year's NFL Draft.

The teams cannot officially process the trade until the league's new year begins on March 12.
Washington is taking on the remainder of Deebo Samuel’s contract and paying his full $17.55 million salary for the 2025 season, per sources.
Samuel, 29, was a Pro Bowler for San Francisco in 2021, with 77 receptions for 1405 yards and 59 rushing attempts for 365 yards. He scored 14 total touchdowns that year.
Since then, however, Samuel hasn't gotten close to that season's 1770 total yards from scrimmage. In 2022, 2023, and 2024, he totaled 864, 1117, and 806 yards from scrimmage, respectively. He averaged seven touchdowns/year in that span.

With the Commanders, the receiver will have a chance to rejuvenate his career in a potent offense. Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels was named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year last season, and Samuel will be the second receiving option to star WR Terry McLaurin.
Sadly, Samuel will not help the Commanders' defense, which allowed 55 points to the Eagles in the 2024 NFC Championship Game.
After a series of events… Touchdown Eagles!
