Two Perkiomen Valley restaurants — Avocado Mexican Taqueria and Kumo Sushi and Asian Bistro — received near-perfect results during their latest annual health inspections conducted by the Montgomery County Office of Public Health on June 18.

The inspections, which are part of the county’s routine oversight of food establishments, found only minor issues at both locations, all of which were able to be corrected on-site.

Avocado Mexican Taqueria, located at 3815 Ridge Pike in Lower Providence Township, was commended for having two certified food protection managers on staff. The few comments noted during the inspection included the absence of a posted Certified Food Sanitation Manager Certificate — an administrative oversight that can be resolved by requesting a duplicate.

Additionally, a mop was found not stored in an inverted position for proper drying.

Kumo Sushi and Asian Bistro, located at 99 Market Street in Providence Town Center in Upper Providence Township, was also praised for its cleanliness and operational safety.

The inspection report noted a lack of single-use paper towels at a handwashing sink, and food preparation taking place in a three-compartment sink rather than a designated food prep sink — an issue that was corrected during the visit by relocating the prep area.

Avocado Mexican Taqueria offers a variety of authentic Mexican dishes, including tacos, burritos, and bowls, with options for both dine-in and takeout. They have received positive reviews for their food and service, according to reviews on Yelp. Avocado prioritizes sustainability with its use of plastic-free packaging and reusable tableware.

According to its website, breakfast offerings, like the Tres Huevos al Gusto and Chilaquiles Verdes con Huevo, promise a hearty start to your day. For lunch and dinner, the standout burritos, including the Burrito Al Pastor and Burrito Pollo, encapsulate the essence of traditional flavors wrapped in soft flour tortillas.

Avocado Mexican Taqueria is open Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sunday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Call them at 610-455-4366.

Kumo Sushi is described as “where quality meets food, where America meets Asia, where family meets family” on its website. The restaurant does allow reservations at 610-489-6868 and also offers online ordering.

Furthermore, Kumo Sushi offers private home catering for occasions such as birthdays, graduations, appreciations, anniversaries and celebrations with a professional sushi chef, as well as live demonstrations and sushi classes. The chef will arrive with a mobile sushi station right in your kitchen, backyard or business office.

Kumo Sushi and Asian Bistro is open Monday to Thursday, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sunday 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

According to MCOPH, inspections provide a “snapshot” of a facility’s operations at the time of the visit and may not fully reflect long-term sanitation practices. Restaurants in Montgomery County are inspected annually, although additional visits may occur if violations are found or complaints are submitted.

Consumers interested in viewing detailed health inspection results for any Montgomery County food establishment can visit the county’s online inspection database. Those wishing to report a suspected foodborne illness can do so through the health department’s official complaint form.
