Bryan Arturo Bueno, of the 1800 block of Ethan Drive, Wyomissing, Berks County, allegedly fled troopers after stop attempt for tinted windshield, striking multiple cars before surrendering
A Berks County man has been charged by state troopers with two felony counts of fleeing from police after he allegedly refused to pull over on a traffic violation for having a heavily-tinted windshield.
On Tuesday, June 10, at 4:19 p.m., Pennsylvania State Police were traveling north on Gravel Pike, south of Maple Avenue in Perkiomen Township, when a black 2023 Hyundai Sonata with a completely tinted windshield passed them from the opposing direction, police said.
Police hit the sirens on Gravel Pike, north of High School Drive, for a safe traffic stop, but the driver, alleged to be Bryan Arturo Bueno, 27, of the 1800 block of Ethan Drive, Wyomissing, Berks County, veered right onto the open shoulder/turn lane, police said.
Bueno then began to speed up and continue south on Gravel Pike, police allege. A pursuit began, with Bueno allegedly turning right on a solid red with a “No Right on Red” sign. Police said Bueno passed other vehicles in the southbound lane and continued to fail to stop at solid red lights.
Speeding continued until the car crashed off the left side of Gravel Pike, causing damage to a field, but Bueno kept on driving, police said.
Troopers said Bueno passed more than 30 cars unsafely, failed to use his signal multiple times, ran two solid red lights, crossed over solid white lines more than 20 times, and followed too closely to other cars.
The pursuit finally ended when Bueno went onto the shoulder of US Route 422 West, speeding as much as 85 mph, police said.
After the pursuit ended, troopers began to travel on US 422 West toward Berks County. Stopping at a Wawa at 10 Maplewood Dr. in Amity Township, Berks County, a trooper pointed out that the suspect’s vehicle was stopped in 422 Westbound traffic, according to the complaint.
Troopers went from the Wawa lot onto Maplewood Drive northbound, and hit the sirens to stop the left lane travel of US Route 422 West. Police found Bueno again, driving on the right shoulder of westbound Route 422, but he then hit the rear of a truck, causing it to roll and hit another car, per the complaint.
Bueno’s car came to rest facing southwest on Route 422 West, at which point he jumped out of the car and gave himself up, police said.
Crash victims suffered minor neck and back pain, minor abrasions and lacerations, police said.
After being arrested and processed at Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Skippack, Bueno admitted he fled police because his license was suspended and he did not want to go to jail, police said.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
