Back in May, Comcast Spectator announced that the center would be renamed Xfinity Mobile Arena beginning in September. They even released the following rendering of the new signage, which is yet to be installed:
The Wells Fargo Center signage removal represents the end of an era. That's been the name of the arena since 2010. Prior to that, it was also called CoreStates Center (1996-1998), First Union Center (1998-2003) and Wachovia Center (2003-2010). However, all of those name changes represented the bank that was initially called CoreStates merging with another bank. From 1996-2025, it was really different variations of the same bank. This new name will be the first time that it's an entirely different corporate sponsor of the arena. It would be interesting to know why it's now an arena, and no longer a center.
