Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services launches annual summer grocery store gift card drive

The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is kicking off its annual Summer Grocery Store Gift Card Drive, running from now through July 11, 2025. This important initiative supports residents facing one of the most common challenges in our community: food insecurity. 

Nearly 20% of Montgomery County kids receive free breakfast and lunch at school. For these children, summer means a higher risk of hunger. 

Food insecurity is consistently among the top 10 issues affecting Montgomery County residents, and is especially prevalent among many of the families served by HHS. Gift cards donated through this drive are used to: 

Provide immediate food assistance to families in crisis; 

• Help families access baby formula; 
• Offer families in hotels or those experiencing appliance or utility issues the ability to purchase meals from restaurants. 
• All gift card amounts are appreciated. Donate gift cards from any store or service that offers food, including grocery stores, big box stores, food delivery, or restaurants.
