A local pet rescue is calling for help after a devastating fire on Sunday.
PAWSibilities Animal Rescue was “struck by tragedy” by a barn fire that struck their rescue on Mainland Road, the rescue said Monday.
“A destructive fire consumed the barn at owner Samantha (Sam) Carroll’s home. This barn was more than just a structure; it was a sanctuary for her farm animals and her personal outdoor colony of feral barn cats,” said PAWSibilities in a Facebook post Monday.
“Some of Sam’s cats were inside the barn at the time of the fire, but the fire marshal assured us they didn’t suffer due to the nature of the quick moving blaze,” the rescue said.
PAWSibilities is a nonprofit, no-kill animal rescue founded by Carroll in 2009 and based in nearby Skippack, according to the rescue’s website.
The Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company has not directly shared info about the fire as of Monday afternoon, but shared a local news report that said no volunteers were within the barn at the time, but at least 15 cats with special needs or medical issues lost their lives.
“We want to thank all the rescues and many individuals for reaching out with support and offers of supplies. The barn was a storage facility for the rescue, but we are covered in terms of immediate needs,” said PAWSibilities on Monday.
“At this time, we need to regroup and we will have more information to follow. Thank you again for all your love and support,” the shelter said, adding a link to their donation page for those looking for a way to show support.
