An Upper Providence Township police officer died by suicide Monday night in the parking lot of the township campus, according to a statement released by the department.
The incident occurred outside the police station on Black Rock Road shortly after 7:30 p.m. Police said that there was never any threat to the public and asked for understanding as they cope with the loss.
In a Facebook post, the department shared that the police station would remain closed on Tuesday to allow officers time to grieve.
