Montgomery County officials plan a series of events in June, highlighting Juneteenth as well as Immigrant Heritage and Pride months in Montgomery County.
The events aim to cement “the county’s commitment to the diverse communities that call Montgomery County home,” a spokesperson said in a statement.
Two flag raising events are scheduled to mark Pride Month and Juneteenth outside the Montgomery County Courthouse, located at the corner of Airy and Swede streets, in Norristown.
The seventh annual Prime Month flag raising ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 2, and the fourth annual Juneteenth flag raising ceremony is slated for 10 a.m. on Monday, June 16. Ceremonial proceedings also include the announcement of the county’s Art and Poetry of Freedom contest winners.
Montgomery County officials are expected to designate June as Immigrant Heritage Month and will hold a block party to celebrate the county’s immigrant communities at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 5, on the courthouse steps.
The premier festivities will feature food trucks, music, dancing, and remarks from speakers, according to a county spokesperson. County departments and local organizations will have informational tables and activities for attendees. A stretch of Swede Street will also shut down during the event.
Additionally, officials scheduled a virtual event focusing on diversity equity and inclusion for noon on Wednesday, June 11. Eastern PA Transgender Equity Project Executive Director Corinne Goodwin will headline the “Belonging in Action: LGBTQIA+ Allyship and Workplace Inclusion” conversation. Topics include “the importance of creating safe, inclusive workplaces for LGBTQIA+ employees and how inclusion, allyship and employee resource groups support both individual employees and overall organizational success.”
