Inmate Moynea Ashley Davis, of the 4900 block of Parkside Avenue, Philadelphia, was charged nearly a month after the incident
A Philadelphia woman is accused of assaulting two correctional officers at Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Lower Providence Township last month.
The inmate, Moynea Ashley Davis, 37, of the 4900 block of Parkside Avenue, was charged July 9 by county detectives with four felony counts of aggravated assault, two felony counts of assault by a prisoner, and two misdemeanor charges of recklessly endangering another person, for an incident that occurred around 8:43 p.m. June 7, 2025.
The incident was reported to authorities a month later on July 7, according to the complaint.
Detectives allege that on June 7, two female officers were assigned to the security office at the jail. One officer escorted inmate Davis from her cell to the shower. Prior to showering, the officer provided a towel for Davis to use; during showering, the officer did not see the towel. When asked where the towel was, Davis said she placed it inside her county-issued jumpsuit due to menstruation, according to the criminal complaint.
The officer issued multiple commands to turn over the towel, which she refused, police allege. Then, Davis allegedly began to show signs of aggression and balled her hands into fists.
Davis was escorted back to her cell by two officers, while continuing to be aggressive and non-compliant, police said.
Officers attempted to gain control of Davis through control holds, at which time she allegedly began to resist, breaking away from the holds. Detectives allege Davis began fighting with officers and hit one officer in the face three times with a closed fist, knocking the glasses off her face.
Additional officers responded and secured Davis in restraints, according to the complaint. A second officer was also hit on the side of her face, police said.
Both officers were relieved of their duties, and treated by medical staff, with one victim suffering an injury to her right eye, and the second victim suffering injuries to her right eye and right arm, according to the affidavit.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
