To find out what schools were like before the familiar one-room schoolhouse era, get educated at a special free lecture titled “Very Old Schools: Local Education 1720–1850” on Wednesday, July 9 at noon at the Schwenkfelder Library & Heritage Center, located at 105 Seminary Street in Pennsburg.
Presented by local historian Bob Wood, the talk will explore how early congregations in the region made sincere efforts to provide children with the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic more than a century before public township schools came into being.
The lecture is part of the center’s ongoing Brown Bag Lecture Series, and attendees are welcome to join in person or virtually. The program is free of charge, thanks to the sponsorship of KeyBank.
