Pennsylvania State Police are asking for the public’s help as they investigate a fatal crash on Route 422 Eastbound that may have stemmed from a road rage incident between two vehicles.

The crash occurred at approximately 5:26 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, near mile marker 177.2 in Limerick Township. According to a release from the Skippack barracks, a black Volvo SUV veered off the right side of the highway and struck a tree. Troopers arrived on scene to find the SUV’s driver unresponsive and entrapped, with heavy damage to the vehicle.

First responders extricated the operator and transported him to Pottstown Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.

While on scene, troopers learned that the occupants of a tan Chevrolet Cruze, also at the scene and visibly damaged, claimed to have been involved in the crash. They told police that both vehicles had been engaged in a road rage incident stretching several miles back along US 422 East.

According to their account, the Volvo allegedly brake-checked the Cruze after swerving into the right lane, causing a rear-end collision. That impact, police said, caused the Volvo to lose control and leave the roadway.

Troopers interviewed the driver of the Chevrolet Cruze, who was determined to be under the influence of alcohol. He was taken into custody and arrested for DUI. Authorities say additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.

The crash is being reconstructed by PSP crash experts and forensic services unit members, and Route 422 Eastbound was closed for approximately 2.5 hours during the investigation and cleanup.

State Police are seeking witnesses who may have observed the crash or the actions of the drivers prior to the incident. Anyone who was driving along US-422 East between 5 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on June 29 and saw a black Volvo SUV or a tan Chevrolet Cruze is asked to contact PSP Skippack Station at 610-410-7640.

This remains an active investigation.
