  • Government

Collegeville Borough is looking for one of its own to step into a civic decision‑making role after a member of the three‑person Zoning Hearing Board (ZHB) resigned at the end of June.

Term and eligibility

  • The vacancy is open to any Collegeville Borough resident.
  • Because the appointment fills an unexpired term, it will run only until December 31, 2026.
  • The successful applicant may reapply for a new three‑year term beginning January 1, 2027.

What the Zoning Hearing Board does

The ZHB is a quasi‑judicial body that weighs sworn testimony and documentary evidence at public hearings. Its powers include:

  • Hearing appeals of decisions or determinations made by the borough’s Zoning Officer (Borough Manager Tamara Twardowski).
  • Granting variances to zoning ordinances, including requests to enlarge non‑conforming uses.
  • Authorizing special exceptions and variances in cases where literal enforcement of the zoning code would create an unnecessary hardship, provided the decision upholds the spirit of the ordinance.

Hearings must be held within 60 days of an application, and the board must deliver a written decision within 45 days of the hearing. Meetings take place at Borough Hall on an as‑needed basis and are advertised in a local newspaper, as required by law.

Duties, training, and compensation

Board members—and one alternate—serve without pay, but may attend borough‑funded webinar training seminars to stay current on zoning law and procedure.

How to apply

Interested residents should e‑mail a letter of interest to Borough Manager Tamara Twardowski at TTwardowski@borough.collegeville‑pa.gov. Questions can be directed to her office at 610‑489‑9208.

The Borough Council will make the final appointment.
