The Montgomery County America250 Commission will support initiatives to amplify the County’s historical significance and promotional activities throughout the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations
The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners announced that applications are open for the County’s America250 Commission. This Commission will coordinate the County’s efforts to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States in 2026.
Community members who are interested in collaborating with regional, state, and federal Semiquincentennial planning efforts on activities within Montgomery County are encouraged to apply to serve on this voluntary board.
“This Commission will offer valuable perspectives and insights as we work with our partners to plan America250 events and celebrations,” stated Neil K. Makhija, chair of the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. “We are looking for partners at all levels—municipalities, historical societies, cultural organizations, businesses, private citizens, and more—to make plans for 2026 and find ways to coordinate and promote the many wonderful assets and special events across the County.”
Montgomery County plans to leverage the nation’s historic 250th Anniversary to drive tourism and economic activity, promote historic sites and cultural activities, and inspire residents and visitors to embrace and uphold the ideals upon which the United States was founded.
“This is an exciting opportunity to showcase the best of Montgomery County to a national and global audience,” said Montgomery County Commissioner Jamila Winder. “Montgomery County will be a hub for activity and celebration throughout 2026 with multiple major events including the NCAA Tournament, PGA Championship and so many others. Anyone who loves Montgomery County and wants to help spotlight our communities and rich history on the international stage is encouraged to apply.”
“America250 marks a huge milestone for our nation’s history and Montgomery County played a pivotal role in shaping the story of our country” said Montgomery County Commissioner Tom DiBello. “This is a great way for people to get involved in sharing Montco’s story, bringing visitors to our small businesses and historic landmarks, and more.”
