All charges were held for Montgomery County Common Pleas Court against an inmate at Montgomery County Correctional Facility accused with smuggling cocaine and methamphetamine in his braided hair into the Lower Providence Township jail and then attempting to swallow them in front of officers.

Anthony White, 31, was charged earlier in January by county detectives with two felony counts each of bringing a controlled substance to jail, possession of a controlled substance/contraband, and possession with intent to distribute, as well as two misdemeanor counts each of intentional possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, stemming from an incident that occurred in October, according to court records.

On Oct. 12, at 10:06 p.m., corrections supervisors and medical assistants were conducting a medical intake screening on White, when an officer saw a black and circular object in the braid of White’s hair, per the affidavit.

When questioned about it and when authorities went to take control of the item, White allegedly grabbed it, put it in his mouth, started chewing it and attempted to swallow the item.

After White did not comply in spitting out the item, officers were able to remove the object from White’s mouth, police said.

All in all, the object was found to be eight small baggies with a powdery, white substance, later tested and identified as cocaine, and four blue vials of meth, which was also identified via lab testing, police said.

According to recent court documents, White is at Chester County jail, as of Jan. 9, on $1,077 cash bail, which includes a parole/probation detainer.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
