The funds are provided through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Watershed Restoration and Protection Program and Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program.
State Rep. Joe Webster, D-Montgomery, said he is pleased to announce today over $166,000 in state grants for two local environmental and recreation projects in the 150th Legislative District.
These funds, provided through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Watershed Restoration and Protection Program and Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program, will bolster efforts to improve local environmental sustainability and recreational opportunities.
Collegeville Borough was awarded $88,681 under the Watershed Restoration and Protection Program to support the Donny Brook Stream Bank Restoration Project. This project will focus on stabilizing the stream bank, reducing erosion, and improving water quality for the surrounding community.
Upper Providence Township will receive $77,915 through the Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program to fund their Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Greenway Planning Project. This initiative aims to enhance local infrastructure for biking and walking while creating accessible greenways, promoting connectivity, and encouraging outdoor recreation.
“It's important we support and secure funds for projects and legislative efforts that will improve our environment and strengthen recreational areas,” Webster stated. “I look forward to seeing the realization of these projects in Collegeville and Upper Providence.”
Under the CFA’s Act 13 programs, WRPP supports efforts to restore and maintain Pennsylvania’s waterways by addressing sources of pollution and degradation, while the GTRP provides funding for the planning, development, and rehabilitation of greenways, trails, and recreational facilities.
“In Montgomery County, we’re fortunate to be surrounded by the Perkiomen Trail, as well as an array of other paths, the beautiful Perkiomen Creek and its tributaries, including the Donny Brook, outdoor spaces, parks, and more,” Webster added. “These grant dollars will make the shared spaces we all use better, safer, and more accessible.”
