Many Philadelphia Phillies fans are not thrilled with the outcome of this year's Baseball Writers' Association of America (BBWAA) Hall of Fame Vote.
Beloved franchise icons Chase Utley and Jimmy Rollins fell short of the 75% of votes needed for induction. Bobby Abreu fell short as well. All while Billy Wagner, highly unpopular in Philadelphia (though a very deserving candidate), reached 82.5% and is heading to Cooperstown.
Ex-Phillies Hall of Fame Vote % 2025
Billy Wagner - 82.5% (up from 73.8%)
Chase Utley - 39.8 % (up from 28.8%)
Bobby Abreu - 19.5% (up from 14.8%)
Jimmy Rollins - 18.0% (up from 14.8%) pic.twitter.com/IfozhEC8xG
Each of Utley, Rollins, and Abreu made gains from last year's voting, but only Utley seems to be on a strong trajectory. The second baseman's 40% is a solid number for his second year on the BBWAA ballot.
Chase Utley jumped from 28.8% to 39.8%. This was his second year on the Hall of Fame ballot. 75% required for election. Only 5 guys got more votes this year.
Next year, Abreu will be on the ballot for the seventh time, and Rollins will make his fifth appearance. Players are dropped from the ballot if they fail to crack 75% within ten years. After that, a player's only chance is to get voted in by one of the Hall of Fame's various "Era Committees" (such as the committee that voted Dick Allen into the Hall in December).
Time is running short for Abreu or Rollins to make a surge via the BBWAA route.
Jimmy Rollins snubbed for the HOF again. His stats are equivalent or better than his shortstop peers in the Hall. The disrespect is amazing. If he was a Yankee or Dodger, he'd be in.
On Pattison recently examined the Hall of Fame cases for the ex-Phils on the ballot here and here.
