Attendees celebrate 'the birds going to the bowl.'
Montgomery County officials and residents took a midday break on Thursday to get into the Super Bowl Spirit.
An Eagles pep rally was held outside the county courthouse in Norristown as the Philadelphia Eagles prepare to take on the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in New Orleans in Super Bowl LIX.
“We are thrilled to celebrate and get pumped for what’s going to happen on Sunday,” said Montgomery County Commissioners’ Chairman Neil Makhija, adding “from Lansdale to Lower Merion, Pottstown to Plymouth, Montgomery County is Eagles territory.”
Several county employees held “Fight Eagles Fight” signs and donned their gear in support of the birds. Human Resources personnel Jacquie Guidone and Sandy Milito expressed their excitement to “celebrate the birds going to the bowl.”
Milito, who was also a former Philadelphia Eagles cheerleader from 1982-86 and 1990, was emphatic.
“We’re an extension of the city and we’re all fans of our great Eagles. They’re going to score well and they’re going to come home with the trophy,” she said.
The event was co-hosted by Montgomery County and the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board. Appearances from familiar favorites included the Philadelphia Eagles mascot, Reggie, a bald eagle at the Elmwood Park Zoo, and the tourism board’s mascot, Monty the Fox. Montgomery County held a similar event in 2023 when the Eagles last made it to the Super Bowl and faced the Kansas City Chiefs.
Despite the wet weather, Eagles chants could be heard along Swede Street. Attendees enjoyed food trucks and remarks from elected officials to hype up the crowd. Popular songs were also played, including the team’s new unofficial anthem, Too Short’s “Blow the Whistle.” The Super Bowl is scheduled to kick off at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
“Who’s ready for a big win on Sunday?” said Commissioner Tom DiBello, adding “Let’s go Eagles.”
“Let’s root for our Eagles. Let’s make sure we do every dance, every prayer to ensure they bring home the victory from New Orleans,” said Montgomery County Commissioners’ Vice Chairwoman Jamila Winder.
