A death row inmate at State Correctional Institution Phoenix in Skippack Township was declared dead in his prison cell Tuesday afternoon, authorities announced this week.
Tam Le, 53, was found unresponsive Tuesday and declared dead at 7:23 p.m. after prison staff and medical personnel responded to conduct lifesaving measures, according to Joseph Terra, superintendent of SCI Phoenix.
In December 2016, Le was sentenced to death in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas for the 2014 killings of two brothers. He arrived at SCI-Phoenix on July 17, 2020.
Pennsylvania State Police were notified and will investigate the death at the state prison. The official cause of death will be determined by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
The deceased’s next of kin has been notified, according to Terra.
