An inmate at Montgomery County jail is accused of punching a corrections officer in the face while being booked at the Lower Providence Township correctional facility last month.
Tyron Jahfari Brown, 26, of the 1000 block of North Charlotte Street, Pottstown, was charged by Montgomery County detectives on Jan. 29 with aggravated assault, felony assault by prisoner, and misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person, for the 12:59 a.m. Jan. 16 incident, according to court records.
Investigators said they were assigned to investigate the assault on Jan. 28. Brown allegedly physically assaulted the officer while inside the admissions booking room at the jail. The assault was caught on surveillance, police said.
Surveillance showed the victim in process of booking Brown, when he allegedly refused to follow instructions and verbal commands.
As the officer moved Brown into the booking area for photographs, Brown allegedly punched the officer in the right side of the face with his left fist.
The victim and other staff were able to gain control of Brown, per the affidavit.
Police said the victim suffered a bloody nose and redness to the mouth.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
