Welcome to the Kit Kat Klub! The setting is 1930s Berlin, and the night stirs with the heady allure of flowing drinks and enchanting music. If you’re ready to become immersed in a seductive, haunting, and oh-so sexy night out, Playcrafters of Skippack is ready to be your host.

By way of the lauded musical masterpiece that has stood the test of theatrical time, Playcrafters’ stage will transform into a glitzy nightclub in the Tony award-winning stage play, “Cabaret.”

“It defines musical theater,” said veteran director Leena Devlin of the iconic stage play now in its fourth revival.

The story explores the impact on people’s lives when Germany is on the threshold of a new regime and the emerging rise of Nazism. It reflects the devastating influence of the Nazis and portrays American writer Cliff Bradshaw (played by Ryan Simme), who visits the club where he meets British nightclub singer Sally Bowles (played by Emily-Grace Murray). Their relationship turns romantic amid the steamy backdrop of the club led by a flashy, charismatic Emcee (played by Connor Riley).

Bradshaw becomes engaged with Ernst Ludwig (played by Curtis Myrick), a persuasive man with evil motives. Meanwhile, the story of boarding house owner Fraulein Schneider (played by Donna Dougherty) and her suitor, the kind-hearted fruit seller Herr Shultz (played by Ben Fried), lends a poignant take on how love can become stifled under threatening conditions. Their neighbor, Fraulein Kost (played by Cristina Duffey), adds tension to the shifting moral climate of the boarding house.

Featuring memorable songs like “Wilkommen,” “Maybe This Time,” and “Cabaret,” you’ll be doing some reminiscing as the production remains relatively unchanged from earlier versions with a score by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and book by Joe Masteroff.

“This isn’t just a musical — it’s a mirror. We’re holding it up to the past and to the present,” said Devlin. “Cabaret lures you in with sequins and saxophones, but just beneath the surface is the question: How do ordinary people let terrible things happen? We want our audiences to leave moved, shaken, and maybe a little more awake.”

Whether you’re familiar with the Liza Minelli -Joel Gray-Michael York version or the latest innovative revival, Cabaret remains unforgettably poignant and will leave its theatrical mark on you.

This production contains adult themes and historical references that may not be suitable for all audiences. Rated PG-13.
