Pennsylvania State Police have charged a Trappe Borough man with felony counts of robbery of a motor vehicle and theft by unlawful taking for stealing a Cadillac SUV from another borough resident.

Tashif Zahmir Everett, 32, of the 900 block of Muhlenberg Drive, is also charged with misdemeanor unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, according to charging documents. Everett is free on $25,000 unsecured bail.

On March 26, at 1:36 a.m., troopers received a report of a disturbance on the 1500 block of West Main Street in Trappe Borough, and while enroute, they were told that Everett fled the home in a maroon 2022 Cadillac XT6 SUV, according to the affidavit. The vehicle had tinted windows, black rims and a rear taillight out, police said.

The victim told troopers that the defendant came to their workplace and an argument ensued, with Everett allegedly entering the victim’s car and refusing to exit. The victim then drove Everett to the West Main Street location to drop off shelves, police said.

When the victim exited the SUV, Everett continued to argue with the victim, at which point he allegedly got into the idling Cadillac and fled the scene. The victim had possession of the key fob, police said.

Troopers contacted OnStar, who gave police the location of the SUV at a home on the 200 block of Kelso Circle in Trappe, according to the affidavit. When troopers arrived to the Kelso Circle home, Everett was allegedly in the driver’s seat of the stolen SUV, where he admitted that it was not his and that he took it without consent.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 13 at 9:30 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Cathleen Kelly Rebar.

All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
