Upper Providence Township Police and Fire Department are bringing its inaugural First Responders 5K Gauntlet and 1 Mile Kids’ Gauntlet on Saturday at Black Rock Park, 1286 Black Rock Road in Phoenixville, beginning at 10 a.m.

The gauntlet is an exciting event organized by both public safety departments that looks to support a good cause in the Upper Providence Township Parks & Recreation Summer Emergency Services Youth Camp Fund.

The gauntlets will feature obstacles inspired by first responder tasks, such as a low crawl and tire roll. Once completed, participants will continue to face more challenges that test their strength, agility and endurance.

The 1 Mile Kids’ Gauntlet will feature a kid-sized blow up gauntlet and the run is suitable for children ages six to 12.

The first 300 registrants receive T-shirts.

Cost is $40 per adult and $20 per child. Sign up for the race here.

As of Thursday, $2,670 was raised toward the $5,000 goal.

Sponsors of the First Responders 5K include Families Behind the Badge, ServPro Team Fabiani, River Crest Golf Course, The Bridge @ Collegeville, Harvest Seasonal Grill, DonutNV and The Gym and Crossfit.

From 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, the Upper Providence Township complex, including the police headquarters, will be temporarily closed for safety of participants and attendees.
