First responders were called out late Saturday night for an emergency on the 100 block of Cherry Street in East Greenville. Early reports said the incident involved an altercation between the 18-year-old caller and their father.

According to those at the scene, an altercation resulted in a 911 call to Montgomery County Emergency Dispatch Saturday night as a father was “physical” with the caller. Emergency medical services were initially declined by the caller.

Those calls for help came in at 8:08 p.m., according to a press release from Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele sent Sunday afternoon. According to reports, officers arrived at the home on Cherry Street to find a man barricaded in the basement of a home, threatening to harm law enforcement.    By James Short   While the emailed press release from Steele did not note if the "man" was the father or the son and details on the "man's" identity have not been released, PerkValleyNow.com received confirmation that the 18-year-old caller is safe.

Steele said that “numerous attempts to negotiate with the individual were made by police,” but by 11:30 p.m., police breached the basement door to find the man armed with a machete and a hatchet.

According to reports, the man “charged” at police and refused commands to drop his weapon. One officer attempted to taze the man, but that failed to stop his progress, said reports.

One Upper Perkiomen police officer discharged his firearm, striking the man, Steele’s release stated. Though police officers then rendered first aid, the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:05 a.m.

As it is protocol county wide, an officer-involved shooting is investigated by the Montgomery County Detectives. Names of the man that is deceased and the officer have not been released by authorities at this time.

Assisting the East Greenville Borough Police Department at the scene was Lower Salford Township Police and the Montgomery County Forensic Services Unit (FSU), as well as the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
