Montgomery County officials plan to address infrastructure projects down the line after approving a series of bids and requests for proposals during a recent meeting.
While plans concerning the Montgomery County Department of Assets and Infrastructure took up a majority of the nine-item package, transportation and health and human services-focused initiatives were also unanimously approved.
Assets and infrastructure officials aim to implement a “park paving improvement plan” geared toward asphalt paving for parking lots, access roads and trails at seven Montgomery County sites. Funding is expected to come from the capital improvement plan’s roads and bridges line item, according to a request for proposals form. Bids were due by Aug. 30.
The following locations are expected to be paved: the porous parking lot of Upper Schuylkill Valley Park in Royersford; a stretch of the Perkiomen Trail at Green Lane Park in Green Lane; the Hollywood Trailhead at the Central Perkiomen Valley Park in Schwenksville; the two parking lots at the Norristown Farm Park; and the Byberry Road parking lot at the Pennypack Trail.
The county’s assets and infrastructure department also requested construction inspection services related to two bridge replacement projects. Interested parties would be tasked with providing “full-time on-site construction oversight and inspection during the replacement” of County Bridge No. 56, located along Rices Mill Road over Tacony Creek in Cheltenham Township and County Bridge No. 44, located along Moredon Road over the Pennypack Creek in Abington Township.
Construction is expected to begin in late winter or early spring 2025, according to the request for proposals. The process is expected to take 12 months for the Cheltenham Township bridge and 11 months for the Abington Township bridge.
Project funding sources involved the Motor Vehicle Registration Fee Fund and capital improvement program dollars, respectively. Those interested have until 11 a.m. on Sept. 12 to submit a bid.
