Montgomery County, Pennsylvania seems to be recovering more quickly than other regions of our country when it comes to employment levels. In fact, the county is nearly back to pre-pandemic levels.
A report in the New York Times on Aug. 27 by Ben Casselman and Ella Koeze outlined the trends across the country and included an interactive map to show the “ups and downs.” Overall, they reported, the country has seen 19 million new jobs added to the market since the global pandemic of COVID-19 over four years ago.
The rate of rebound is not equal across the United States, and some areas are finding it easier to get back to 2019 figures than other are. Pennsylvania, for example, on the whole has suffered more than other states. However, that hasn’t stopped Montgomery County growth.
According to the Department of Labor and Statistics, the county is only 0.4% away from per-pandemic employment levels. Counties including Bucks and Philadelphia have actually grown over their 2019 numbers, fully recovering from the hit.
Metrics, as provided by Quarterly Census for Employment and Wages, were used to make the NYT calculations. For more on the topic, read the full story on nytimes.com here.
