The event, “Can I Get There From Here? Connecting Communities with Active Transportation,” will take place on Wednesday.

  • Montgomery County

The Montgomery County Planning Commission invites the public to attend a free event on how an active transportation network benefits communities and the elements needed to make the network effective and attractive to users. The event, “Can I Get There From Here? Connecting Communities with Active Transportation,” will take place on October 30, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Upper Gwynedd Township Building, 1 Parkside Place, North Wales, PA 19454.

The event will discuss how elements of active transportation infrastructure can be encouraged (or required!) during the land development process. It will explore how a municipality can use its code to support walking and biking for transportation and how it can have a positive impact on community members who engage in these healthful and environmentally beneficial modes of travel.

The event will feature a variety of speakers who will talk about the active transportation network in the county and all of the elements that are needed to make it effective and user-friendly. Participants will also hear how the transportation management associations (TMAs) serving Montgomery County are working to reduce single-occupancy vehicle trips.

An event highlight will be the release of the new MCPC Pocket Guide to Active Transportation-Friendly Code. This booklet provides guidance on creating a community that is supportive of walking and biking for transportation. Join us for new strategies and potential partners to move the active transportation network forward!

This event is being offered through Planning Smarter Montco 2024, an annual education and outreach initiative by the Montgomery County Planning Commission and corresponds to the “Connected Communities” theme of Montco 2040: A Shared Vision, Montgomery County’s comprehensive plan.

MCPC also invites those interested in attending the event to arrive anytime between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to learn about and provide feedback on Montgomery County’s draft comprehensive plan, Montco 2050: A Comprehensive Plan for a Changing World.

Event registration is available at www.montgomerycountypa.gov/PlanningSmarter.
