Police ID pedestrian killed by car in Upper Providence as elderly Montgomery County man

The pedestrian hit and killed by an SUV Wednesday morning in a shopping center parking lot in Upper Providence has been identified as Howard Hoffman, 70, of King of Prussia.

Police said the accident occurred at 12:15 p.m. in the parking lot outside the Staples at 1844 E. Ridge Pike at The Court of Upper Providence. 

The driver of the striking vehicle has been fully cooperative and is assisting in the investigation.

Police did not say if charges would be filed in the accident.

Hoffman died at the scene, police said.

"The Upper Providence Township Police Department extends its condolence to the family and loved ones of the victim," police said in a statement. 

Police were assisted at the accident scene by Upper Providence Township Fire, Trappe Vol. Fire Department, Freedom Valley Ambulance, and Royersford and Limerick fire police.
