More than 40 locations taking part in Oct. 26 Montgomery County Drug Take Back Day

Forty locations across Montgomery County will serve as drop-off locations for residents to rid their homes of unwanted prescription and over-the-counter medications during this fall’s “Despicable Meds” Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, announced Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Springfield Township Police Chief Michael E. Pitkow, the president of the Police Chiefs Association of Montgomery County.

The 40 participating locations are:

Wegmans at Providence Town Center Shopping Complex (Upper Providence Township Police), 600 Commerce Dr., Collegeville

All locations will be staffed by police officers during the four hours of the event, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additional drop-off sites may be added.

Accepted during Drug Take Back Day—and throughout the year at permanent MedReturn boxes—are prescription and over-the-counter tablets and capsules, inhalers, creams, ointments, nasal sprays, pet medicines and vapes (with the battery removed). Not accepted are needles, liquid medications and intravenous or injectable solutions.

If residents can’t make it to Drug Take Back Day, unwanted medications can be dropped off and disposed of throughout the year at more than 50 permanent prescription drug disposal boxes, most of which are located at police departments. Some of these boxes were sponsored by the Pennsylvania District Attorneys Association and some by Pennsylvania American Water in an effort to help keep our water supply safe. Since the Drug Take Back program began in 2010, more than 126,000 pounds of medicines have been collected and safely disposed of.
