Collegeville Borough Police are inviting the public to a checkup of car seats.
The department, alongside Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, is holding a free in-person car seat check event on Friday from 9 a.m. to noon at The Barn Yard, 305 2nd Ave., Collegeville, with an Oct. 16 rain date.
Police said the event requires appointments ahead of time with one of the county’s certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians. The appointments, police said, are one-on-one and attendees need to come prepared to engage with the technician throughout the entire appointment. This is an educational fitting station, not an installation service, police said.

Police encourage citizens to make sure to attempt installing the car seat themselves prior to arrival. Attendees should bring the car seat manual and vehicle owner's manual to the appointment.
All parents and caregivers of young children riding in car seats or booster seats are encouraged to attend. Registration for this event is required.
