A Maryland man was charged with felony carrying a firearm without a license and misdemeanor drug offenses after allegedly being found by police in a Lower Providence hotel parking lot rolling a blunt with a loaded, chambered 45mm in his backseat.
Antwan Dewan Hardy, 38, of the 100 block of Paramount Park Dr, Gaithersburg, MD. Was charged Sept. 28 by Lower Providence Township Police with misdemeanor counts of marijuana possession and use and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to court documents.
Hardy is free on $5,000 unsecured bail, per court records.
On Sept. 28, at 1:35 p.m., police were investigating a retail theft report and checking the parking lot of Tru Hotel, 825 Forge Avenue, in the Audubon section of the township.
Police said a black Audi SUV was parked in the rear lot of the hotel, occupied by two people in the driver and passenger seat.
Police approached the car on foot and made contact with the occupants, which police said was Hardy in the driver’s seat. Police said there was an odor of marijuana coming from inside the car and a blunt wrapper was cut open on the center console.
When police asked Hardy if there was any other illegal item in the car, other than marijuana, Hardy told police that he had his brother’s gun inside a bag, and admitted he had no license to carry a firearm in neither Pennsylvania nor Maryland, per the affidavit.
Police searched the car and its contents, finding a black shoulder bag on the front passenger side seat of the car, which Hardy identified as belonging to him, police said.
A black Taurus .45mm semi-automatic handgun was in the bag, police said, loaded with 10 full metal jacket rounds and one chambered in the gun.
Police also found a container labeled “Street Lawyer Services,” which contained a small amount of marijuana, police said.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 17 at 9:45 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Cathleen Kelly Rebar.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
