Elementary Readathon winner gets police escort to school

Reading can do great things - and for one elementary school student, it meant a special police escort to school.

Lower Providence Township Police said Woodland Elementary School student Grayson Lenox was a top fundraiser for his school's annual Readathon.

So, in recognition of his accomplishment, the police department escorted Lenox to school last week.

Young readers like Lenox dream of big successes and awesome careers.Some may dream of being a police officer one day. 

Lower Providence Police wants to make it a reality, as applications remain open until Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. for a full-time police officer position in its ranks.

Here are eligibility requirements:

  • At least 21 years of age by the deadline for submitting a resume.
  • A current resident of Pennsylvania at the time of appointment.
  • Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license at the time of appointment.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of a police officer.
  • Successfully completed Act 120 training through an academy certified by the PA Municipal Police Officers Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) and be able to meet the certification standards of the MPOETC as required by PA Act 120; or qualify for a waiver of training.
  • Successfully complete an oral interview, medical, psychological, and polygraph exams and a thorough background investigation.
