A prisoner at Montgomery County jail has been charged by Montgomery County detectives with aggravated harassment by a prisoner and aggravated assault on an officer for allegedly spitting in the face and mouth of a corrections officer.
Joseph Kurtz, 27, of 600 block of Buck Run Road, East Fallowfield, PA, was also charged Nov. 12 with misdemeanor recklessly endangering another person, in addition to the two felonies, according to court records.
On Oct. 31, at 1:10 p.m., several corrections officers, including a corporal, entered the housing section at Montgomery County Correctional Facility on Eagleville Road in Lower Providence to escort Kurtz to a video court appearance. During the escort, Kurtz allegedly refused to move or follow commands given by corrections officers.
Kurtz then intentionally spit at the corporal, hitting him in the face and mouth with saliva, police said. The victim was taken to an outside medical facility for further treatment, police said.
He was held on $25,077 cash bail, and has a preliminary hearing set for Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Cathleen Kelly Rebar.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
