The defendant passed out at a stop sign at an intersection with the guns visible in the backseat, police said.
A former Skippack Township man is headed to Montgomery County jail for up to 23 months after pleading guilty to illegally carrying a gun without a license in Lower Providence Township.
Timothy Louis O’Neill, 46, formerly of the 3500 block of Skippack Pike, and currently a Philadelphia resident, was given nine to 23 months for the felony offense, which occurred in November 2023, according to court documents.
O’Neill, per the order of Montgomery County Common Pleas Judge Wendy G. Rothstein, must also complete one year of probation after his sentence and can be a part of the work release program, per The Mercury.
He must also turn over all of his guns to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office for destruction, per the report.
Police found a crack pipe, a Glock Model 43 9mm handgun, three magazines, 18 9mm full metal jacket rounds, and a Diamondback Arms .223-caliber Remington NATO rifle during a search of O’Neill’s car, per the affidavit. The guns, police said, were on the backseat.
Police responded to the area of East Mount Kirk Avenue and Walker Lane in Lower Providence Township at 12:19 a.m. on Nov. 11, 2023 for a report of a male slumped over a steering wheel of a Chevrolet Silverado at the stop sign, per the report.
Upon arrival, police found a crack pipe in plain view on the center console and O’Neill admitted to smoking the drug the night prior, authorities said. He then gave consent to search his truck, police said.
Two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia were dismissed against O’Neill in exchange for his guilty plea to the most serious felony gun charge, per court documents.
