Over the past several months, Perkiomen Valley School District School Police Officers have been undergoing extensive training to enhance the safety and security of the school community.
Training topics include, but are not limited to, trauma informed concerns, mental health and social work review, weapons training and use of force, bullying recognition and prevention, and emergency response protocols and drills.
The district said that the SPOs will be completing their final training in the next few weeks.
As part of this transition, PVSD SPOs will be in uniform on school grounds. PVSD said it understands that it will be a noticeable shift from what parents, students and faculty are accustomed to, and the district assures that the officers are there to support and protect the school community.
Additionally, PVSD uniformed SPOs will be present at the upcoming commencement ceremonies. Their presence is intended to contribute to a safe and celebratory environment for all attendees, per the district.
PVSD said the visibility of its uniformed officers will enhance the sense of safety and security within its schools, and that its SPOs are dedicated to fostering a positive and secure learning environment.
