Each municipality received $250,000 for restoration or trail enhancement projects and must completed in 3 years.
Collegeville and Trappe boroughs were awarded much-needed grant money from Montgomery County Commissioners Thursday night as part of the county’s Montco 2040 Grant program.
According to the county, both municipalities will each receive $250,000 to go toward trail expansion and historic restoration.
In Collegeville, the grant money will go toward the cost of creating a spur to the Bums Hollow Perkiomen Trail Connection. Trappe and Historic Trappe will team up to use the grant funds for a restoration project at the Speaker’s House.
Both boroughs must complete their respective projects in three years, according to Anne Leavitt-Gruberger, Montgomery County planning manager.
WFMZ reported that commissioners took their regular meetings on the road, and appeared at Limerick Township on Thursday night.
According to the report, this is the ninth year for the county grant program, which provides $2.5 million in annual funding. The maximum award is $250,000, per the report.
Collegeville and Trappe boroughs must put up a minimum match of 20% of the grant amount, per Leavitt-Gruberger.
All in all, this year there were 23 applications totaling $4.27 million. Most of the awards were selected based upon diversity, equity, and inclusion.
