The forum, held May 14 at Lansdale YMCA, focuses on the journeys through addiction and recovery.
On May 14, Montgomery County Commissioner Chair Jamila Winder will find this year’s free Drug Addiction Resource Alliance (DARA) forum hits very close to home.
According to Magisterial District Judge Andrea Duffy, founder and organizer of the event, Winder and her brother Randy Winder will speak at the forum to discuss their family’s journey through addiction and recovery.
“We have always emphasized that addiction can happen to anyone, and this very public family will provide their ups and downs story to help other families as well,” Duffy said in a Facebook post about the event.
The forum, which kicks off at 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Lansdale YMCA, has the purpose of building community support for recovery.
In addition to the Winders, David Uosikkinen, drummer from Philadelphia rock band The Hooters will also speak at the recovery forum.
According to www.darasaveslives.com, the alliance is a collective of local resources in the community that exists to assist those who suspect someone they love may be struggling with drug abuse or a substance abuse disorder, while also providing education and support to families.
There will be a Q&A session for all attendees, as well as free naloxone, free Narcan training and distribution, and informational tables.
