For 35 years, Upper Salford Township has celebrated America with a party and a parade, and it will be doing it again this July 4.

The 36th annual Upper Salford Red White and Blue Parade will kick off at 10 a.m. on Potato Road at Old Skippack Road in Salfordville and end at the firehouse on Old Skippack Pike.

The public is welcome to the event, which will feature free hot dogs, birch beer and cake at the Upper Salford Fire Co.

Attendees are welcome to decorate a float, bicycle, or scooter for the event. If walking is preferred, deck yourself out in your best red, white and blue festive wear.

The parade will feature prizes for Best Decorated Bicycle for ages 3-7, and for ages 8-12, Best “Festooned” Walker, Best Large Vehicle/Float, Best Small Vehicle/Float and, naturally, Best Tractor.

Parade registration is at 9:15 a.m. at the bottom of Potato Road, but is only necessary if entrants are competing for a prize.

Those driving in the parade are asked to approach Potato Road from Old Sumneytown Pike and avoid Old Skippack Road. Then, at the end of the parade, vehicles must continue onto Shelley Road, Schwenksville Road or Old Skippack Road after passing the firehouse.

The event is rain or shine.
