Several students at regional schools received the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) medals and certificates at their end-of-year awards programs, through the organization’s Towamencin Chapter. The awards were established by the National Society DAR.
DAR Youth Leadership Medals and Certificates were awarded to seven students from three local school. The recipients were selected by school faculty, identifying individuals who best demonstrated the qualities of good citizenship, honor, service, courage, leadership and patriotism:
General Nash Elementary School (North Penn School District): Sixth-grader Sadie Zavada and fifth-grader Giulia Della Porta.
Indian Valley Middle School (Souderton Area School District): Eighth-grader Aisling Shelly
St. Mary’s School (Schwenksville): Eighth-grader Caeli Ciprero, seventh-grader Saige Perkins-Lee, sixth-grader Lena Gaspar, and fifth-grader Lillian Fry

This award is presented to a cadet who has demonstrated loyalty and patriotism and has earned scholastic achievement.
The cadet is selected based on qualities including dependability and good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership ability, and a patriotic understanding of the importance of JROTC training. Mia will be continuing her education at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, AZ, with a major in Aviation.

DAR is a non-political service organization that promotes historic preservation, education, and patriotism, and is open to any woman 18 years or older who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence.
